On-site conversations with the people who run the world's independent bookstores — filmed on their shop floor, among the shelves they built.
Michael Rio Michelozzo de Zayas is the owner of Cordelia bookstore in Brooklyn. New York magazine called him a “community-building empresario” after he opened Hullabaloo Books, which existed for five years before Covid.
After getting an MFA in Poetry from Sarah Lawrence and working as a travel writer for Fodor’s guides and the New York Post, Michael transformed himself into one of New York’s most successful retail entrepreneurs.
Listed among New York Observer’s Top Wavemakers and Change Agents in Brooklyn, de Zayas continues to create some of Brooklyn’s most iconic and beloved bars, coffee shops, and — thank heaven — bookstores.
